Sullivan to get a life: Sullivan
Told by the majority of his party that he was not the man to lead the Non-Partisan Association into 2010 and beyond, Mayor Sam Sullivan says he has no plans to be on the ballot in November as a city councillor.
"No, not at all," Sullivan told reporters. "I'm going to be out there campaigning for the team...
"I'm going to get a life."
"I'm always philosophical about these things," Sullivan said. "I do my best. And I throw my fate into the hands of God."
Sullivan said one of his greatest memories of his last three years in office was of waving the Canadian flag at the 2006 Torino Olympics.
"It was a great honour for me to represent the city and be the public face of the city. But all of the things we've done, creating social housing, bringing in money to the city from the federal and provincial governments, fighting for the interests of the city, I think it's all going to be a great memory for me."
Sullivan may or may not remember being splashed with a jug of Coke earlier in the day by a protester with the Anti-Poverty Committee, who somehow got past a dozen private security guards and police officers on watch at the Marriott Pinnacle hotel, where today's NPA nomination was held.
He joked it was appropriate that he was doused with a beverage from an Olympic sponsor. "I think it was a very good gestures," he said.
