Thrones for sale

A chance for a seat of power is up for grabs.

Vancouver city hall is selling off 10 “traditional executive chairs” on the popular free ads website Craigslist. My bargain hunting colleague Bob Mackin first spotted this deal.

These chairs, the ad promises, once cushioned the bottoms of the city’s elected city councillors during all those lengthy meetings.

“They are high back traditional chairs with a wooden base and wheels,” according to the ad, which boasts of the chairs’ “pristine” conditions.

“There are also metal studs around the frame of the chairs.”

The price for a piece of posterity for your posterior? Only $200 a piece. And you have your choice in colours: Sultry red or deep brown.

In the past, the city has used sites like Craigslist and Ebay to sell off old fire trucks and police boats. The city is also selling eight used 100th Anniversary Harley Davidson Police Road King motorcycles.

That's pretty steep for used and out of date office chairs.

The funny thing is, they were posted earlier for $500, when bidding was scheduled to close on Dec. 31st. I guess they didn't have many takers!

I sense there's a deal to be had for patient chair collectors.
