Carbon tax and universal health care: Two peas from the same bold pod

B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell's controversial carbon tax is a “bold vision” on par with the invention of universal public health care in Canada, according to Stephane Dion.

“When history looks back on the moment that Canada brought its greenhouse gas emissions under control and spurred the green economy, it will have started right here in British Columbia," the federal Liberal leader said in a speech today.

Vote green, not Green?

The people behind a new website hope Canadians are willing to shift their vote for the environment this year by voting against the Conservatives.

The Vancouver-based website www.voteforclimate.ca aims to cut down on vote splitting among so-called "climate-friendly" parties.

"We think a lot of Canadians agree that climate change is the No. 1 issue of our time," said spokesperson Kevin Washbrook, who is also involved with the group Voters Taking Action for Climate Change.

"If we're not careful, we're going to elect a majority Conservative government and it won't be on purpose. It will be because we split our votes amongst all other parties that say they want to take action on climate change."
